CAROLS by Candlelight is on tonight at Kuirau Park and organiser David Elliott, from the Geyserland Lions Club, is calling for families with young children to hitch up the reindeer
and jingle down to the park.
"It's for the kids and young families and the object is to give them a really great night of entertainment," he said.
This celebration of Christmas will be opened at 7pm by The Hits 97.5 local host Paul Hickey, who will be fronting the programme of entertainment along with its director, Rotorua singer and choir conductor Evelyn Falconer.
The Rotorua Symphonic Band, choirs from the Rotorua Methodist Church and Kawaha Point Primary School, The Rotorua Music School's ukulele band, and children's entertainment provided by the Go Bananas song and dance group will feature.
Candles will be lit around 8.50pm and the show will end around 9.30pm.
The site is a natural amphitheatre, which was expected to be filled if the night was warm, said Mr Elliott.
"The night is always popular and is packed to capacity when there is good weather, so hopefully it holds out," he said. People should bring their own rugs and warm clothing. They can also bring their own candles, but the Lions Club will be selling candles and holders for a gold coin proceeds will go to the Rotorua Hospital Chaplaincy Trust.
The Geyserland Lions have been organising the night for 22 years and raise up to $1500 for a local charity each time. There will be food stalls and coffee vendors on site for the whole show. The event will only be cancelled if the weather is wet, or the site waterlogged.
If necessary, cancellation notices will be announced during the day on The Hits Rotorua 97.5 and on www.dailypost.co.nz.
Admission to the event is free, thanks to the ongoing support of Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust and Andy's Marquee and Party Hire.
