Rotorua's newest supermarket is set to open this week, with the site being officially blessed ready for the shoppers to hit.
The supermarket will open on Thursday following yesterday's blessing by Reverend Tom Poata.
Countdown Fairy Springs store manager Steve Green said the store on the corner of Fairy Springs Rd and Maisey Pl had a team of 100 people - 89 of whom were new staff.
He said the company was excited to be opening and had worked hard to get ready for the first day of business.
"I know they are looking forward to getting started."
Mr Green said there were no plans to close either of the other two Countdown stores in Rotorua.
The Countdown Fairy Springs would be a welcome addition to that side of town, he said.
Local developer Ray Cook of R & B Consultants developed the site, which covers an area of 3500sq m and will contain 194 carparks. The supermarket is described as a "new-generation format" which featured energy efficient fixtures and fittings as well as eight self-service checkouts, a bakery, service delicatessen and seafood department and offer the "Click and Collect" service where people are able to order groceries online and pick them up.
