A public march being held in Rotorua is expected to draw locals from "all walks of life" who are passionate about preventing global warming.
Rotorua People's Climate March is taking place today and is a family-friendly event designed to encourage world leaders to do more to stop global warming.
The Rotorua march coincides with national and international marches planned in the lead up to the Paris Climate Talks in December.
Organiser Jenny Lux said she felt strongly about the issue and wanted other locals to get on board.
"I found out about the global marches and saw we were not doing one in Rotorua so thought I'd organise one.
"We've had about 80 people confirm they are coming but I've also heard a few others say they would join in."
She said the march would go ahead today, "rain, hail or shine".
"It's such an important issue that affects everyone. There is a common misconception that it's too late to do anything about global warming but it's not - it's never too late, but we need to be acting now.
"There will be children, elderly, doctors and local government leaders taking part in this march which just goes to show people from all walks of life have an interest in protecting our earth from climate change."
Ms Lux said the march was a starting point, but people needed to commit to changing their behaviour around climate change.
"It's all well and good saying you care about climate change but we also need to be proactively changing our attitudes and behaviour."
The march starts at 11am at the Village Green and will follow a route into town, finishing at Kuirau Park.
