Former Rotorua man and legendary blues player Mike Garner will be returning to the city with fellow blues musician Derek Jacombs.
The duo will be playing acoustic versions of blues classics and originals, as well as new songs from Jacombs' recently released album with his band Kokomo, at Brew Craft Beer Pub.
The gig is part of New Zealand Music Month.
Garner, based in Papamoa, was eagerly anticipating his return to Rotorua.
"I'm looking forward to it, Derek and I have known each other for a long time.
"We both have our own bands but never played a gig together like this one."
Audiences could look forward to hearing a mix of genres, he said.
"Both Derek and I write our own songs, and it will be a mix of blues and the other stuff. These days the word for it is Americana, which encompasses folk, blue grass and Bob Dylan.
"We will play more traditional and obscure blues songs. People like to hear music they know, so we'll be playing music by artists like Muddy Waters and Eric Clapton."
He expected a strong turnout. "I am already quite well known so I'm expecting a good turnout ... It is a smaller bar, too, so it should be pretty well packed."
The gig is also an opportunity to see Garner perform before he heads overseas on another international tour.
"I'm also off to my second tour of Japan in a few weeks.
"Derek and I playing together, that's the special thing about this gig."
