Rotorua should be buzzing this Auckland Anniversary weekend, with summer weather billed and plenty of activities to keep the whole family entertained.
Rotorua Association of Motels chairman Barry Mabey said motels across town had been filling up quickly.
"It seems like it's going to be good, I think most of them are filling up rather quickly. It's been an awesome summer, its been pretty steady, and the weekends are looking good.
He expected a mixture of domestic and international travellers who wanted to take in all Rotorua had to offer.
"There's been a huge mix, and a lot of international travellers this summer.
"It's actually been a steady improvement over a period of time really, the last nine months has shown that.
"Probably we as moteliers help them stay longer. I think as a tourist destination we are letting the people know there is a hell of a lot more to do here than they imagined, and they would struggle to do it all in one day. It should should be a good weekend for everyone."
Between four and five thousand spectators are expected at the A&P Lifestyle Expo this weekend, secretary Lyn Tetenburg said.
"Hopefully we will get lots of people because there is lots to see, lots of trade sites for kids to look at, good attractions with chainsaw carving and on Sunday we have a dog show and that really brings the people in. They will come and have a wander around, there are lots of animals to see so with all that happening and being a nice day people will wander around," she said.
Abracadabra Cafe and Bar owner Nadia Goldbert is also expecting a busy weekend, and has been busy all year.
"I imagine we will be quite busy because we have bookings, we are kind of always busy at the moment. Tuesday has been our new Friday."
