People are being encouraged to take on a challenge while raising money for charity as Oxfam Trailwalker prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
The Taupo event is one of New Zealand's longest-standing charity events. This year it has a new trail and a goal of raising $1 million to help people in the Pacific rise out of poverty.
The event, which takes place in March 2015, sees teams of four walking or running 100km in less than 36 hours, alongside some of New Zealand's most spectacular scenery.
The events attracts people from across New Zealand and the world, with participants last year from as far away as Germany, China and the US.
To date the event has raised over $7.4 million.
Oxfam New Zealand's executive director Rachael Le Mesurier said the event was powerful for two reasons.
"It's not only a huge personal challenge, but it also challenges the assumption that we cannot make a real contribution to overcoming the scandal of poverty and injustice in the world.
"When participants and their supporters see how much difference every dollar they raise and every kilometre they walk makes, they realise their immense power to change the world for the better."
