It's cupcakes with a cause - hundreds of the tasty treats have been sold to raise money for the Rotorua SPCA.
Yesterday marked the SPCA's annual national Cupcake Day, which aims to raise money for the thousands of animals the charity cares for each year.
Dozens of local businesses got behind the cause, with staff swapping their suits with aprons to bake and sell their sweet creations.
Rotorua SPCA manager Eve Johnson said she was blown away by the number of people who got involved with the day, and the amount of money raised.
While she did know the exact figure, she estimated more than $5000 was raised.
"It's going to go a long way towards feeding and caring for all the animals we have here over the next year."
The money raised would go towards feeding the animals and veterinary care.
She said she wanted to thank everyone who got involved with the fundraiser, including New World, Countdown, Scion, BNZ, Heartland Bank, Rotorua International Airport, Rydges Rotorua and Lakeland Queen.
Ms Johnson also wanted to thank the Waiariki Institute of Technology's catering students who baked 350 cupcakes for the cause.
"If there's anyone I've missed, thank you, we're incredibly grateful for all the support," she said.
