A Rotorua woman found a strange man in bed with her in her Owhata home this morning.
Rotorua police are investigating the incident, which happened in Baxter Pl around 6.45am.
A man has entered the home and gone into the bedroom where the homeowner was sleeping.
He has tried to get into bed with her but the woman has woken up and realising he was not her partner she yelled at him and then punched him.
Detective Chris Nairn said the man ran out of the house and the woman heard a car start up.
He said she was left "frightened but unharmed".
The man is described as being in his early 20s with light coloured skin, of medium build and approximately 177cm tall.
He was wearing dark framed reading glasses, dark coloured tight fitting beanie, grey hoodie and blue jeans.
Rotorua police are also interested in finding a light coloured vehicle, possibly a late 1990s Toyota Corolla, described as having round lights at the front and dents in the back.
The vehicle was seen parked on Owhata Rd from 6.15am and driving on Baxter Pl before the incident.
