Rotorua's outdoor enthusiasts will have the unique opportunity to watch films depicting Kiwis and other adventurers pushing the limits of human capability.
The New Zealand Mountain Film Festival, staged in Wanaka each July, is one of the world's major international mountain film festivals.
The "Best of the Fest" tours nationally with a prize-winning collection of films featuring snowboarding, kayaking, BMX, rock climbing, ski-mountaineering, all with a distinct Kiwi element. It will be screening at Rotorua's Waiariki Institute of Technology campus on Friday, September 5.
From the feats of extreme snowboarder Xavier de La Rue, seeking a new paradise for steep riding at the world's end in Mission Antarctica to Koura Ma (white gold) with its first attempt to climb and ski the 18,250 -metre high mountains in the Southern Lake District, along with base jumpers testing out new wing suits, there is plenty to excite filmgoers at the screening.
"It really is great that Rotorua's outdoor community gets a taste of this unique fest, the films are exciting, educational and pretty inspirational. This tour collection is definitely one of the best yet," event organiser Brett Cotter said.
The film festival will screen at 7pm at G Block Lecture Theatre, Waiariki. Tickets are $15 for Waiariki students and $20 for adults and are available from Cycle Zone, 1299 Fenton St. There will be limited door sales.
