Rotorua resident are being told not to worry about geothermal activity coming from Kuirau Park this morning as it is just routine bore maintenance.
A concerned member of the public contacted the Rotorua Daily Post after what she thought was a big explosion.
However, the activity was routine maintenance being carried out by workers on a bore.
The work was expected to be completed by 10am, Garry Brown from Rotorua Well Drilling said.
Reporter Rebecca Malcolm said the bore was between the children's playground and the Aquatic Centre and looked quite impressive.
She said there was a lot of steam coming out and it was quite noisy.
