National MP Anne Tolley said she did not lose any sleep knowing flood waters were swirling throughout the ground level of her Ohope home.
Standing shin-deep in floodwater this morning as firefighters pumped out her garage, Mrs Tolley said she and her husband last night headed upstairs and opened a bottle of bubbly.
"We figured there wasn't really much we could until the rain stopped so we had a bottle of wine and went to bed."
After further deluges of rain this morning, Mrs Tolley said the water had initially been knee-deep in the garage. Pumping by the brigade had reduced the level to ankle-deep.
Firefighters joked with Mrs Tolley, telling her a cup of coffee would be greatly appreciated.
"Sorry but I don't have any power," she laughed.
