Police are appealing for information about the movements of a Honda vehicle involved in an alleged aggravated burglary and kidnap.
The incident occurred about 3am this morning in the Maungatapu area of Tauranga.
There was a domestic dispute between a man and a woman inside a property and it is alleged the man forced the woman to leave the house and tried to force her into his vehicle.
A member of the public heard the commotion and shouted out that he was phoning police.
This distraction enabled the woman to break free and the man left the area in the vehicle.
A 38-year-old Tokoroa man was arrested a short time later in a vehicle in Te Puke.
He has subsequently been charged with kidnap, aggravated burglary, assault with intent to injure, breach of a protection order, wilful damage and driving whilst disqualified.
He is currently in custody and will appear at Tauranga District Court tomorrow.
The woman, who was in her 30s, suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.
Police want to hear from anyone who saw a grey Honda Odyssey in the Maungatapu area; particularly around Maungatapu Rd, any time yesterday or in the early hours of this morning.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Tauranga police on (07) 577 4300.
Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
