Rotorua Golf Club has received thousands of dollars worth of ceiling insulation as part of an energy-saving scheme offered to local sports clubs.
The club installed more than $2000 worth of Pink Batts last week, which was donated by energy-saving group Project Litefoot.
Five city sports clubs are registered with Project Litefoot, which offers a free service to help community clubs save money on their power and waste bills while reducing environmental impact.
All Rotorua sports clubs are being asked to sign up with their free programme called LiteClub, which begins with a visit from the energy saving group.
Rotorua Golf Club general manager Don Blackledge said LiteClub was a great way for local clubs, which might struggle with running costs, to save money on their electricity bill.
He said a group from LiteClub visited the golf club last year and went through the club house changing light bulbs and insulating water pipes.
He said they also offered the club free Pink Batts a few months ago.
"We had to cover the freight and installation and they provided the batts for no cost.
"We had enough to do the whole clubhouse ceiling, about 220sq m.
"The club house is almost 100 years old and it needed something to be done but we couldn't afford to do it on our own."
Mr Blackledge said it was quite hard to tell how much they would save on their power bill but he said it was sure to have some effect. Project Litefoot marketing manager Lily Clark said it was all about reducing environmental impact by making people more efficient with power and waste.
"We want the club members and communities to make the same changes at home," she said.
"Our aim is to influence this behaviour change into the whole community."
She said they would like to see more Rotorua sports clubs sign up for the free service.
She said it varied, but on average they were saving each club about $5000 over eight years, the life span of an energy-efficient light bulb.
Other Rotorua clubs registered with LiteClub include Lakeview Golf Club, and Ngongotaha AF.
