For Steff Kidd combining two of her passions - running and children - seemed a natural way to raise money for a good cause.
The Porse programme tutor got an early start on Red Nose Day celebrations by holding a special "red nose run" for children attending the Porse play group.
Tomorrow is Red Nose Day, with money raised going to Cure Kids to help Kiwi researchers to improve the health of children through research and its outcomes.
Among the conditions being researched are childhood cancer, heart disease, cystic fibrosis, sudden unexpected death in infancy (SUDI), and many more life-threatening illnesses that mean the children affected often miss out on a normal childhood.
Mrs Kidd, who is training for next year's Ironman, said she had been trying to do little events with the kids to encourage healthy lifestyles, and the Red Nose Run seemed natural.
Children taking part got sponsorship from their family and friends then ran around a course set up.
She said through her role both as an educator and programme tutor she had known of a couple of children who had been up at Starship Hospital, so knew the cause was a good one.
Red Nose Day events are happening at schools and businesses around Rotorua and the rest of the country tomorrow.
