Help keep Sir Peter Blake's legacy alive and you might even win yourself a "cool" gift for your support.
International Red Sock Day this year is Friday, July 12, and in the run-up to the day the special red "lucky" socks, costing $4 a pair, will be available at the Night Market, the Rotorua Daily Post, City Focus, Media Works, Rotorua District Council and TV Rotorua.
The legendary Sir Peter was tragically killed on December 5, 2001.
He and many New Zealanders always wore "lucky" red socks while taking part in America's Cup races.
Since his death, the Sir Peter Blake Trust has strived to keep the fallen hero's memory alive through its leadership programme with Red Socks Day, which helps raise funds for programmes it offers youth. It's also a day to celebrate young leaders.
Night Market organiser Brigitte Nelson said she hoped many Rotorua people would support the cause by buying socks.
She was hoping about 500 pairs would be sold in Rotorua, which would raise about $2000 for the cause.
"I'd be so rapt if we sold that many.
"It's about keeping the legacy alive and inspiring young New Zealanders."
Many lucky Rotorua people who bought a pair of the socks between now and July 11 had the chance to win themselves a prize, including movie tickets, red roses, and Volcanic Hill's wine.
"Some of the socks will have a gold disc inside," she said.
People who discovered a gold disc in their socks should pop along to the Night Market on Thursday, July 11, and redeem it for a prize.
Meanwhile, leadership activities will be held in Rotorua during Leadership Week, July 5 to 12, as schools and organisations celebrate leaders in the community and mark the special day. For more on Red Socks Day 2013, go to the website www.sirpeterblaketrust.org
