The toddler who was hit and killed by a car in Rotorua has been identified as Tyrese Hill.
Police said the toddler was 16-months-old and from Taupo.
The incident happened about 5.30pm yesterday when a woman at a Turner Dr house left the property, running the child over on the street.
Rotorua police said in a statement yesterday that it appeared that a woman was leaving the property and was unaware that the child had followed her out of the house.
"Her vehicle struck and killed the 16-month-old boy on the footpath."
Police will not say what relationship the driver is to Tyrese, but they have said the driver is not his mother.
"Support is being provided to the family who are understandably distressed," the statement said.
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
