Massive Raggamuffin opportunity for local DJ

By Kristin Macfarlane

Raggamuffin has grown even bigger with four new DJ acts added to the line-up, including Rotorua's DJ Masive, aka Sam Hema.

Raggamuffin 2013 will be at the Rotorua International Stadium on February 1 and 2 with a massive line-up of national and international acts over two days, including Lauryn Hill and Ali Campbell's UB40.

Now Hema has been added to the line-up, with other Kiwi DJs, including Infared from Christchurch, Maori TV's Code resident DJ Poroufessor and bFM's Dubhead. They will feature on all stages and VIP zones throughout Saturday.

King Kapisi has also been confirmed for the Main Stage on the Saturday and will showcase his international brand of Djing/Mc-ing and more.

Hema said he was looking forward to the event and being able to showcase his own skills to the Raggamuffin crowd.

"It's awesome," Hema said.

"Just to be able to be included in that, that's enough for me."

He was also excited about meeting new people including organisers and the possibility of meeting one of his favourite MCs and singers - Lauryn Hill.

Hema said he would entertain the crowds with a DJ set playing some of the top local reggae, R&B, soul and hip hop.

The line-up for Friday night includes DJ Sir-Vere, The Club Kings, Pacific Reggae Mix, Darky Roots, Common Kings, Black Seeds and Gappy Ranks.

Saturday will include Zkabby Jams, Hot Rain ft Siaosi, Three Houses Down, The Green, Fiji, J Boog with special appearance by Monsta G, Brownhill featuring Swiss, Tomorrow People, Rebelution, Katchafire, Herbs, Alborosie, Ali Campbell's UB40, Toots and the Maytals, and Lauryn Hill.

Meanwhile, organisers are urging fans to get their accommodation sorted now, saying ticket sales for this year's reggae celebration have been stronger than previous years.

Organisers say Friday night sales are rocketing with one of the hottest acts of the moment, Common Kings, being a big drawcard.

They're also promising some special guest MCs on stage with Sir-Vere and the Club Kingz as they launch the VP Pacific Reggae Vol 1 CD on the Raggamuffin Friday night.

Due to demand a third VIP zone has been created - the Pacific VIP Tent.

Located in the village area, the tent will have a distinctly island feel and have an adjacent Kava Lounge.

It will provide a premium view of the Village stage which is packed with island reggae stars including J Boog, Fiji, Three Houses Down and The Green. It will also be open on the Friday night.

Tickets are available now at Ticketmaster.
