Murupara's outdoor community swimming pool is opening this weekend with a splash.
The complex will welcome summer with a pool party celebration tomorrow.
Whakatane District Council community and economic development general manager Julian Reweti encouraged the Murupara community to bring family and friends and enjoy their pool.
The planned opening was delayed to ensure all staff were fully trained and equipped with the essential skills and qualifications for pool management.
Mr Reweti said community safety was paramount.
The pool will officially open at 8am with the party running from 11am to 4pm. Mr Reweti said a gold coin donation was all that is needed to join in the fun.
"We're encouraging the community to pre-purchase their entry to the pool party at the Murupara Library, which is close by. We'll also have individual and 10-swim concession cards available for purchase at the library, which will be a great investment for the summer."
The pool will follow normal operating hours from tomorrow, opening from 8am to 6pm on weekends and 6am to 6pm on weekdays. Entry charges are 60 cents for under-fives, $1.50 for children, students and senior citizens, and $3 for adults.
The pool will be open for the summer season, the duration of which will be weather dependent.
