Sentencing for the teenage girl who stole 82-year-old Gavin Hayes' car has been put off so an electronic sentence can be considered.
Janaya Ashby, 17, appeared in Rotorua District Court before Judge Heather Simpson yesterday for sentencing on a total of 14 charges, to which she had earlier pleaded guilty.
Among those were seven charges she admitted in court last week, including unlawfully taking Mr Hayes' car, failing to stop, driving dangerously and driving while forbidden, all on October 9.
She also admitted unlawfully taking another car last month, burglary and a breach of bail.
Earlier this month The Daily Post reported how Mr Hayes had been targeted by teenagers, who were stealing from him. His car was stolen twice and was written off during the latest theft.
The story led to Mr Hayes being given a car and more than $4000 was raised for him.
Judge Simpson adjourned sentencing until December 10 for a probation report on whether an electronic sentence could be considered.
Judge Simpson remanded Ashby in custody until her sentencing date.
A 14-year-old had been dealt with by the Youth Aid Section in relation to the theft.
