The occupants of a Tokoroa house escaped from the property before it burned to the ground this morning.
The fire was "well-involved" by the time firefighters arrived at the house, on the corner of State Highway 1 and West Rd, about 10km north of Tokoroa, at 1am, Northern fire communications shift manager Jaron Phillips said.
Live power lines running overhead added to the danger, he said.
The people inside got out of the house without injury before the fire ripped through, bringing the home to "ground level".
Firefighters brought the blaze under control and spent several hours dampening down hot spots.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
