Rotorua motorists are being praised for adhering to the new give way rules.
Senior Sergeant Denton Grimes of the Rotorua police said there had been no reports to police of intersection crashes by yesterday afternoon since the new rules came into effect at 5am on Sunday.
Mr Grimes said police staff who were working on Sunday and yesterday said drivers were following the new rules.
"Motorists are showing patience at known high-risk intersections to ensure no crashes happen," he said.
"Our focus on intersections will continue for the next two weeks which will allows us to monitor and address any issues with driver behaviour in respect to the new rules."
The Daily Post went to several central city intersections yesterday to see if motorists were following the new give way rules.
The majority of motorists abided by the new rules, with only a couple who were giving way according to the old road rules.
As part of the new rules, motorists at the bottom of an uncontrolled T-intersection have to give way to those at the top of the T.
The other rule is that right turning traffic has to give way to left turning traffic.
This new rule will require all traffic turning right to give way to a vehicle coming from the opposite direction and turning left.
This applies at crossroads, T-intersections and driveways where both vehicles are facing each other with no signs or signals, or the same signs or signals.
