Rotorua's Sam Ennor is about to channel his inner computer programmer - something he says won't be too difficult.
Mr Ennor is playing the role of Justin, a 31-year-old computer programmer in Rotorua Little Theatre's first production of the year - Role Play.
He says his role was one that was close to home because he is about the same age and has, in the past, worked as an IT technician.
Role Play is a suspense comedy set in an apartment on London's Docklands and sees a normal young couple mixed up with a former lap-dancer, her minder and her jealous gangster boyfriend.
Julie-Ann Jobson and Justin Lazenbyare preparing a dinner party to announce their engagement to their parents who will meet for the first time.
But in a twist of fate, they are disrupted when a woman falls from the penthouse apartment above onto their balcony.
On the run from her violent gangster boyfriend, the woman, followed by her gun-toting minder, wreaks havoc on the couple's meticulously planned evening.
Mr Ennor said he was excited for the show to open and hoped it would appeal to Rotorua.
"If [people] enjoyed previous Shambles Theatre productions they'll like this."
The cast has their final dress rehearsal tonight before the show opens at the Shambles Theatre Box Office on Friday.
"It's going to be a really fun show," Mr Ennor said.
Director Richard Rugg said it was a high energy show that moved at a great pace.
"Audiences will really care about the characters."
Mr Rugg said the plot would offer plenty of twists and turns to keep the audience guessing.
"All [the audience] have to do is come along for the ride."
Mr Rugg said they had a great cast and audiences would be seeing a lot of new faces.
"Come along and support local theatre and local actors."
