Christmas at the Proms promises music, madness, magic and mayhem, making for a marvellous way to celebrate this Christmas season.
The Operatunity Daytime Concert Series will present Christmas at the Proms at the Rotorua Baptist Church on December 18 at 11am.
It's part of their last concert season for 2014. The company completed nine national tours with more than 230 concerts, employing more than 50 New Zealand singers and musicians this year.
Both Christmas and the Last Night of the Proms are synonymous with some of the world's best loved songs and more than their share of fun and frivolity.
Operatunity Daytime Concert Series combines music from these two great festivals into a gala concert, full of famous Christmas carols and songs, flag waving classics like Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia, the Best of British Ballads, skits and jokes with an appearance from Santa Claus and his little elves.
Singer Emma Sloman will debut with Operatunity for this series.
She has a wide theatrical repertoire spanning 20 years, having performed with Auckland Philharmonia, Auckland Chamber Orchestra, Auckland Choral Society, Canterbury Opera, Hawkes Bay Opera, and Opera Factory.
She is currently a resident artist with New Zealand Opera and has also appeared in a number of lighter recitals with Rob Guest and with Dame Kiri te Kanawa in the Vector Concert for the Rugby World Cup.
She is joined by great singers and concert pianist Ludwig Treviranus, who recently returned from overseas study in Florida where he attained a Doctorate of Music.
