A missed workout could be the greatest handicap facing Electric Kiwi when she returns to racing at Alexandra Park tonight.
The outstanding mare has not raced since March yet has a class edge on most of her rivals in the night's feature. But co-trainer Doug Gale says missing a workout last Saturday makes winning fresh-up just that little bit harder.
"There were no workouts at Alexandra Park because of the trials at Pukekohe and she could have done with that one outing under her belt," said Gale.
"But her work on the beach has been good and she is good enough to win a race like this.
"She has speed and can stay so I don't really think it will matter how they run the race, but as always over 1700m, when you draw a little wide you need luck."
Until yesterday Gale thought Easy Anvil (R7) would be his best chance of a win tonight.
"But he didn't eat up that well this morning. We checked him out and he seems fine. If he starts I think he could beat most in that field."
Gale believes both Mighty Moment (R5) and Hanover's Fancy (R1) would be leading chances but for recent setbacks.
"They picked up a bug after they last raced and are likely to be better for their runs."
