A young mum has died following a crash in Christchurch overnight.
Freedom Asha Moat, 23, died when the car she was driving collided with a truck at the intersection of Anzac Drive and Pages Rd, near New Brighton.
The driver of the truck did not sustain any injuries and the woman's passenger, friend Tema Takau, sustained a minor injury.
Takau took to social media today to mourn the loss of her "other half."
"Never thought I'd be writing this I'm lost and dead inside... I love you with all my heart," she wrote on Facebook.
Another friend, who wished only to known by his first name Woody, said he and Moat were "super close."
"She was a tough girl, she didn't let people push her around and she always spoke her mind.
"But she was awesome. It was always a good time with Freedom, never a dull moment," he said.
Moat had two kids - a boy aged about 5 and a girl a few years older. Woody said she was embroiled in a custody battle over the children, who didn't live with her in Christchurch.
"Rest in peace Freedom..." another friend, Michael Brodie, wrote on Facebook.
"You were so much fun to be around, and I will cherish the good times we had. Thanks for being such a good friend to me. Gonna miss you heaps."
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the crash to determine the cause and the death will be referred to the Coroner.
