A motorcyclist is believed to have crossed the centre line and crashed into a car near Matamata yesterday.
The man, from Tauranga, died of his injuries after the crash on Old Te Aroha Rd about 4pm.
Waikato road policing manager Inspector Freda Grace says the man was driving home towards Tauranga when he's travelled up over the brow of a hill.
Mrs Grace says although the circumstances are still being investigated by the serious crash unit it appears the man's bike has crossed the centre line into the path of on an oncoming vehicle.
The man, who was believed to be an experienced rider, died of his injuries at the scene, she says.
"It was a lovely day and with the exception of the fact that he's crossed the centre line and potentially may have been going a little bit fast he was doing everything else right because his bike was registered and warranted and he had all the safety gear; had on proper bike pants and jacket."
The crash brings the Waikato district's road toll to 30 deaths.
