Three children were thrown from a vehicle this afternoon.
The four-wheel-drive, with six people inside, rolled at about 12.35pm in the Bay of Plenty, police said.
One of the group was critically injured, two had serious injuries and a fourth was thought to be moderately injured, Police Northern Communications said.
The crash happened on Otakiri Rd near Edgecumbe in the Whakatane district.
Staff were on the way to the scene at 12.35pm, Fire Service Northern Communications said.
It wasn't immediately clear if a child or adult had sustained the life-threatening injuries.
Six people were in the vehicle, Inspector Tony Wakelin said.
Three children were thrown from it, and three others were trapped inside.
Otakiri Rd was closed between Awaiti South Rd and Hazlett Rd as emergency services worked to extricate the trapped people and treat the injured, police said.
