One person dies after crash in Hawke's Bay

One person had died and another is injured following a road crash in central Hawke's Bay.

Police were alerted to the single-vehicle crash on Ongaonga road near Waipawa at about 8.30pm.

Central police communications acting shift commander Mark Oliver said two people were in the vehicle when it crashed down a bank.

"One of the occupants died at the scene."

"The second person, understood to be a man, was flown to Hawke's Bay Hospital by helicopter with moderate injuries," Mr Oliver said.

Fire Service and Ambulance also attended.
