Women are being warned to pin their fascinators in extra tight for tomorrow's Wellington Cup Day, where winds of 20km/h are forecast.
"I guess you'll have to hold onto your hats with winds of around 20 kilometres an hour, and, with temperatures around 16 degrees, maybe take a light jumper too," MetService meteorologist Tuporo Marsters said.
Thousands are expected to pack into Trentham Racecourse for tomorrow's Wellington Cup Day tomorrow.
The event boasts horse racing alongside the traditional fashion competitions - and the less-traditional burger competition.
The Crowd Goes Wild host Hayley Holt, rugby player Nehe Milner Skudder and New Zealand Sevens coach Scott Waldrum are each designing a burger for the day, which punters will then vote for.
Race Incorporated CEO Alasdair Robertson said it's a big party with a lot of different zones, and it's not just for horse racing enthusiasts.
"There's a huge amount going on, the fashion veranda is probably the classiest bit."
This year's fashion in the field competition will be judged by Holt, stylist Luke Bettesworth and All Blacks Wags, Hannah Laity and Hannah Tevita - the respective partners of Beauden Barrett and Nehe Milner Skudder.
Bettesworth said judges were looking for something different to win, not a repeat of previous winners in Christchurch or Melbourne.
"So really we are looking for something that isn't too much of a copy."
He warned even the off-the-shoulder look popular at the Melbourne Cup has now been seen before.
Bettesworth also encouraged men to get into the racing spirit with their outfits.
"If men are entering any fashion stakes the devil is in the detail, so think about pocket squares, lapel pins and maybe even a neckerchief."
It'll be a cloudy but mostly fine day in Wellington, with temperatures around 16 degrees.
Marsters said the rain will stay away, but the nicest weather will be in the morning and in the evening.
