Fletcher Residential is well advanced with 99 new apartments and terraced residences beside its Three Kings Quarry in Mt Eden.
Tatua on Eden has one, two and three-bedroom apartments with views over Big King, or Te Tātua a Riukiuta, expected to sell from under $500,000 to more than $1 million.
The development is in a Special Housing Area under the Auckland Housing Accord, an agreement between the Government and Auckland Council to speed up new-builds and provide more affordable housing.
But opponents of Fletcher's' much bigger residential plans for the neighbouring quarry - approved by Auckland Council but rejected by the Environment Court - are unimpressed with the new residences.
"Looks like a prison," said a member of the Three Kings Community Action. "Nothing nice about it, all jammed in."
"Hideous looking development," said another.
Fletcher says the project at 985 Mt Eden Rd is only 6km from the CBD.
"Tatua on Eden is zoned for Three Kings Primary and Mt Roskill Intermediate and Mt Roskill Grammar schools," Fletcher says.
"Our three bedroom terrace homes will be available from autumn 2017 and the stage one 1 and 2 bedroom apartments (including the one bedroom, affordable homes) will be available for sale from winter 2017," it said.
