The man who founded New Zealand merino wool empire Icebreaker is selling his luxurious multi-million dollar mansion in one of Auckland's most expensive suburbs.
Jeremy and Ellie Moon's six-bedroom, four-bathroom mansion on Hamilton Rd, Herne Bay, was open for public viewing today, with the price by negotiation.
Mr Moon started the wool clothing company as a 24-year-old in 1994, and 22 years later it is regarded as one of New Zealand entrepreneurial success stories with a company value of about $200 million.
According to property records, the pair bought the beautiful villa, which has a swimming pool and private self-contained cabana house, in October 2012 for $5.25 million.
Property prices have skyrocketed since then.
Photos show an opulent interior. The house has a wine cellar, a basement gym and verandas wrapping around both levels of the two-storeyed home.
The grounds appear immaculately groomed, and the property is close to the many Herne Bay beaches.
The listing, through company Ray White, is described as a "grand opportunity".
"It is absolutely impressive, gracious and very comfortable, but you may want to add your signature to this classic, colonial residence. Beautiful original features - stained glass, columns, panelling, exquisite plaster work and many fine fireplaces - have been retained throughout the generous, well-proportioned rooms, glowing with rich timber floors."
Ray White agent Aaron Haabjoern said it was against company policy to discuss properties with media, but admitted there was "certainly interest in the property".
Mr Moon is yet to respond to Herald inquiries.
