A report that found a government programme to help rebuild Christchurch was looking unachievable is out of date, Finance Minister Bill English says.
The Treasury report found the Christchurch anchor project programme, which includes a sports facility, convention centre and a stadium, had already missed key milestones.
The report gave the programme a red rating, and said it was highly likely to need more money.
Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee has reacted angrily to the report, saying it is "very much a Wellington bureaucrat view" and "dreadfully pessimistic".
Mr English released the report, entitled Managing Government Investment Projects, yesterday.
But this morning he told Radio New Zealand its findings on the Christchurch programme were out of date as it was drawn up five months ago.
"Back in June there was uncertainty, and by the theoretical best process Treasury couldn't see where all the answers were going to come from. Since then, all of those questions have been answered."
