Will Hollywood starlet Angelina Jolie lend her star appeal - and striking beauty - to a Kiwi cancer charity?
The New Zealand Gynaecological Cancer Foundation has invited the A-lister, married to the equally stunning Brad Pitt, to take part in its gala fundraiser, Getting Glam for Gynae, to be held at the Langham Great Room on September 17.
Jolie is no stranger to the terrible cost of cancer. She has lost eight members of her immediate family to the killer disease, including her beloved mother, Marcheline Bertrand.
In a bid to reduce her risk, given her genetic predisposition, the Academy Award-winner has had her breasts and ovaries removed.
"Angelina is a worldwide inspiration to women, not only for her bravery in preventing gynaecological cancer, but for raising awareness of this terrible and often not talked about disease," foundation general manager Bridgette Jackson told Spy. "Her story has prompted women all over the world to be tested and that action has no doubt saved hundreds of lives."
Jackson said it would be "amazing" if Jolie accepted the invitation to be involved, which has been made to her American-based agent Richard Klubeck.
Gala organisers hope she will do a live cross to the function and talk to guests "about her experiences". Spy thinks it would be amazing if she did.
Prime Minister John Key is a confirmed attendee.
Jackson has engaged other high-profile Kiwis to help her raise awareness, including Auckland businesswoman Sharon Hunter, TV One Breakfast news anchor Peter Williams and George FM's Aroha Harawira. Williams and Hunter are official foundation ambassadors.
