Inshore waters between Cape Kidnappers and Portland Island.

Situation:

Cyclone Gita currently sits to the east of the lower South Island, and will continue moving away to the southeast today. Meanwhile, a second low northwest of the South Island moves slowly northeast over the North Island and weakens today. A ridge of high pressure moves over the country on Friday, then a front spreads onto the South Island during Sunday and Monday.

Thursday: Northwest 15 knots changing southerly 20 knots but 25 knots gusting 35 knots east of Wairoa this morning, easing to 15 knots but 20 knots in the east in the afternoon,and to 15 knots everywhere in the evening. Sea becoming rough in the east for a time.Fair visibility in showers developing morning.
