Inshore waters between Cape Kidnappers and Portland Island.

Situation:

A ridge lies over central and northern New Zealand today, while a front moves onto the far south. The front weakens and stalls over the lower South Island on Saturday, while the ridge persists further north through the weekend. Another front moves onto the South Island on Sunday, then the North Island on Monday as a ridge builds over the south.

Friday: Variable 5 knots. Northeast 15 knots developing early afternoon, turning northwest 10 knots late evening. Sea slight. Morning cloud, then fine.

Outlook:

Outlook until midnight Monday: Saturday: Northwest 10 knots, becoming easterly 15 knots in the afternoon, then easing to northeast 10 knots in the evening. Mainly fine. Sunday: Northeast 10 knots, rising to easterly 15 knots in the morning, becoming northeast 15 knots in the evening. Mainly fine. Monday: Changing southerly 25 knots but 35 knots in the east early, easing to southwest 15 knots everywhere late. Cloud increasing, late rain.

Swell:

Swell forecast to midnight Monday: Southeast 1.5 metres but 2 metres east of Mohaka, easing to 1 metre but 1.5 metres in the east for a time today and Saturday. Southwest 2.5 metres developing in the east Monday.

Sea becoming very rough. Moderate southeast swell easing for a time late Friday and Saturday.
