Ditch the sunbathing for some action, writes Megan Singleton.
Any time is a good time to flop on a beach in Fiji under a sun hat, propping up a book and a glass with an tiny umbrella in it. But if you want to be a little more active on holiday, here are five events worth going for.
1. Bayleys Fiji Coral Coast Sevens, Sigatoka
Bring your team shirts, or your fancy-dress mocker, and head to Sigatoka where 24 men's teams and 12 women's teams will be ripping up the paddock to take out the Sevens title. The best Sevens teams in the country promise to bring the speed, the noise and the fans to an event to remember.
2. Bula Belly Dance Festival, Warwick Resort and Spa, Sigatoka
The first annual Bula Belly Dance Festival was held last year, where wannabe dancers learned how to move their belly under the tutelage of exotic dancers and actresses from around the world. This year they are offering eight master classes and performances, and promise it will be an event for the whole family.
3. Fiji International Triathlon, Denarau
If you have a sporty family member (or maybe that's you), take your mates and make a holiday of the triathlon. Stay at one of the resorts on Denarau and offer your cheering support as they head out to swim, bike and run their way around Nadi. A great way to kill two birds with one luxurious stone.
4. Fiji Fashion Week, Suva
If discovering new designers is your thing, then Fiji Fashion Week is a great place to start. Don your best Anna Wintour look and book a seat catwalk-side to see Fiji's colourful influence on the fashion stage. Swimwear, cocktail dresses, bridal and floaty resortwear make for a varied and exciting series of shows.
5. Fiji International PGA golf tournament, Natadola Bay
See the next Vijay Singh at this four-day event on the course he designed at Natadola Bay. This event has the support of the PGA Tour of Australasia, which is investing in golf-training clinics at schools to help grow the next generation of Fiji's elite golfers and let them loose on the world stage.
