This card takes the high road and this takes the slow road ...
"Australia or Scotland, which country is furthest away from New Zealand?" asks Margaret from Glendene. "Two birthday cards posted at the same time on the same day, Monday, August 31 to hopefully arrive in time for the two birthdays on the same day, September 6. A happy birthday text to Melbourne on September 6; no birthday card had arrived. An email sent to Scotland wishing a happy birthday as no doubt the card would not have arrived on time ... to get a reply the card had arrived on September 5. The card to Melbourne did not arrive until September 10. How could this happen?"
Space ... far from the final frontier
Girls CAN do anything. On Friday Kelston Labour MP Carmel Sepuloni attended a women's suffrage event in the city. She was running a little late but when she saw a space close to the event her companion told her she was kidding herself. "There's no way you're getting in there, Carmel," she said. But that was all the motivation the Westie MP needed. It took about 90 seconds for her to parallel park her red car and people passing by clapped. "The other two cars were not touched at all and both had ample room on the other sides to pull out."
Crash course in selling
A reader writes: "A crashed VW Golf was advertised on Trade Me with this description: 'Failure to obey posted road signage resulted in overlapping vectors, exchange of forces ensued and resulted in the reformation as apparent.' Don't they just mean that it was involved in an accident at an intersection?"
Not the screen hero you're looking for
In response to Colin Post's reply about women in sci-fi, a reader writes, "Princess Leia may be a somewhat self-rescuing princess but she never talks to any other woman on screen. The character is also famously objectified in the "Gold Bikini" sequence in Return of the Jedi. But much worse than these misdemeanours in what was a fairly progressive film for its time, if you have ever tried to buy Princess Leia merchandise for young Star Wars fans you'll know there isn't any."
