Mischievous Aussie tramper
"There is a cafe in Little Rock Arkansas, USA, called The Milford Track," writes Margaret. "It is owned by a good American friend who walked the track many years ago. One day I stopped by for lunch when things were going badly for me. In an effort to cheer me up, she brought a small NZ flag out with my meal. The only problem, it was an Australian flag! It turns out a tramper on the Milford Track had given it to her as a gift, telling her it was the NZ flag. For 25 years she has had that flag at her desk."
Relax! Street not fat, just pregnant!
After indulging itself with the breaking news that Toni Street was pregnant at the end of Friday's programme (for much longer than necessary/bearable) Monday night's programme dipped its patter into the fecund pool once again, this time about Toni's weight gain ...
Mike: "The relief around the office, I can not tell you, because it's a social minefield around women who are getting larger in front of your eyes. And I'm not the only one, and we are all going, 'Is she blowing a diff? What's going on here?'." Then Toni chimed in: "Quite seriously though, a few members of the Seven Sharp team came up to me today relieved I was pregnant because they'd noticed I'd been chunking up a bit and they were a bit worried about me."
Indian news anchor pays for blunder
Pronouncing foreign leaders' names is a headache for newsreaders the world over but on Friday it proved the downfall of one Indian newscaster, who mistook the visiting Chinese President's name for the Roman numeral XI, calling him "Eleven Jinping" on air. The blunder occurred in a report by India's public broadcaster Doordarshan on President Xi Jinping's first state visit to India. Doordarshan said the anchor had been sacked.
