Te Kauwhata trainer Tony Cole is poised to complete a notable double at Trentham on Monday.
If exciting sprinter Travellin' Man justifies his fixed odds favouritism in the group one $130,000 Armstrong Jones Telegraph (1200m), Cole will have trained the winners of the shortest and longest feature races at the track.
On his last visit to Trentham in July, Cole picked up the Wellington Steeplechase (5500m) with the ill-fated Harrison Ford.
However, Cole is not only a specialist jumps trainer and he is attacking the Wellington Racing Club's summer carnival with a string of exciting runners.
Besides Travellin' Man, he has the prospects of another major victory with six-year-old Furnish, who is using Saturday's $30,000 Anniversary Handicap (1600m) as a lead-up to the group one $130,000 Thorndon Handicap (1600m) a week later.
Talented mare For Love, giant stayer Leagues and Touchstone Lad are other runners Cole believes can give the carnival a shake.
The key to his team's success is a firm track and Cole has been keeping a close eye on the weather.
Travellin' Man's class was to the fore when he ran a slashing third behind Fritz in the McDonogh Stakes (formerly Railway) at Ellerslie on New Year's Day.
