Birthday boy on driving charge

Three charges of driving while disqualified on the same day were among six charges a 19-year-old unemployed man faced in the Levin District Court.

The court was told Nicky Lee Wilson was stopped by police three times on April 20 for erratic driving.

On April 27 he crossed the centre line, causing opposing cars to swerve out of the way. He failed to observe a stop sign and later failed to take a turn, crashing into a power pole.

He had a breath-alcohol reading of 725 micrograms.

Wilson told police it was his birthday the day before and he was still celebrating.
