Marlborough businesses are continuing to hire overstayers, despite tough new immigration penalties.
A blitz by Immigration Services and Blenheim police last week uncovered eight illegal residents in Blenheim, most of whom were deported during the weekend.
However none of the employers involved is to be prosecuted under toughened immigration laws, which provide for fines of up to $50,000 for employers.
