Feilding driver Douglas Arthur Thompson is the man charged with murder after Sunday’s double killing at Rongotea, near Palmerston North.

Thompson, 57, appeared before Judge Les Atkins yesterday.

He was granted an interim order for name suppression, until 9 am today to allow family to learn of the charges before media published them.

Sergeant Mike Yates said that was acceptable to the police.

Thompson is charged with the murder of Paul Victor Allen and Helen Margaret Johns. He was not asked to plead to the charges.

He was remanded in custody to appear again on January 16.
