Roses are red ...
It's Red Rose Day on November 2, and the Red Cross are very short of volunteers. All you have to do is place yourself in a conspicuous spot, offer red roses to passing pedestrians, and take a gold coin donation in return. Phone 377-4175 if you can help out.
Mock elections
Auckland City is organising mock elections in eight schools this week, showing pupils how local body democracy works. The hope is that the children will go home and challenge their parents about whether they are voting. Community adviser Andrew NcMurtrie says similar projects in the United States have increased the number of voting parents.
