The father of a boy charged with sexual violation of a 4-year-old girl in a playground is angry that his son has been in Christchurch police cells since Tuesday.
He had been told there was no room at the centre where the 14-year-old would otherwise have been sent.
He was not trying to excuse his son, but said the teenager should not be in police custody with adults, and this was the latest example of a breakdown in appropriate care.
Police and Child, Youth and Family refused to comment.
