Men, boy killed on roads

A 21-year-old Tuakau man died in Middlemore Hospital early yesterday from injuries he received when the car he was in left the road and struck fenceposts on Buckland Rd between Pukekohe and Tuakau on Saturday night. The 28-year-old driver of the car will face charges today.

A 7-year-old West Auckland boy, David Jason Walker, died on Saturday on West Coast Rd. Police said he rode his bicycle on to the road at the end of his concealed driveway and collided with a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

James Sales, aged 22, of Hamilton died after his car was involved in a head-on collision with a southbound van on State Highway 1 at Ohinewai, north of Huntly at 2 am on Saturday.

The highway was closed for four hours after the collision.
