A 62-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman at Nelson's Rutherford Hotel.
Police were at the scene just before 9am today.
Nelson Bays Area Commander Inspector Mat Arnold-Kelly said the man was charged with the murder of a 62-year-old woman at the hotel overnight.
"Police were called to the hotel shortly before 9am this morning and a woman was found deceased."
The man and woman were visiting New Zealand from overseas, and were part of a tour group.
Police confirmed the victim was known to the man.
The man is due to appear in Nelson District Court on April 30.
Arnold-Kelly said police were unable to release the name of the victim until all next of kin had been advised.
A Nelson and Marlborough District Health Board spokeswoman said they treated one person connected to the case, who has since been treated and discharged.
A Rutherford Hotel staff member said they were not willing to comment.
