A 54-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the murder of a 27-year-old woman in Christchurch.
The man has also been charged with aggravated robbery.
"Our police team of highly experienced and dedicated investigators have worked tirelessly to ensure justice for the victim and her family, and will continue to do so," said Detective Inspector Darryl Sweeney of the Canterbury CIB.
He said his deepest sympathies went out to the family of the woman. Police would be ensuring the family was supported following their tragic loss, he said.
The victim's name would not be released until police were sure all family members had been informed.

A post mortem examination would occur tomorrow and a team of police experts would continue to piece together information.
Detectives and forensic specialists were examining two scenes in Christchurch, Sweeney said, one in Exeter St and one in Breezes Rd.
Two vehicles have been seized in relation to the case and police are appealing for anyone in the wider area who might have seen or heard anything suspicious on Friday or Saturday to get in touch.
The accused will appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow.
