Six people have been rescued from an 11m launch near Rakino Island after an electrical fire on board.
Coastguard duty officer Hemi Manaena said his crew received a call from the launch shortly before 4pm.
It was positioned northwest of Rakino Island, in the Hauraki Gulf, he said.
Police, Fire and Emergency and the Coastguard had responded and six people were removed from the vessel which was reportedly overcome with smoke.
The boat's passengers were safe and emergency services were continuing to deal with the incident, Manaena said.
Fire and Emergency shift manager Scott Osborne said crew were en route to the launch, but believed the fire was now out.
"We're going to check it out anyway," he said. "We've got a crew on the police launch Deodar going to check it out."
A police spokeswoman confirmed the incident and said police had been asked to assist by Fire and Emergency.
"It looks like it's still ongoing," she said.
