It's been a slow start to the week for Hutt Valley commuters.
There are significant delays for both motorists and train passengers this morning following a car crash and signal fault.
The crash, on State Highway 2 near Horokiwi, happened around 6.40am and was cleared within an hour.
However the NZ Transport Agency said there was still heavy congestion for those heading south towards Wellington.
And the situation was not much better for those catching a train, thanks to a signal fault between Petone and Upper Hutt.
MetLink said both north and southbound services were facing significant delays and some trains had been cancelled.
Crews were working to find the source of the fault but passengers were being asked to consider using alternative transport.
Buses were being brought in to transport stranded passengers.
