Police are investigating an aggravated robbery at Pita Pit in Napier.
At about 10am yesterday a man armed with a knife entered the restaurant on the corner of Kennedy Rd and Georges Dr.
"He demanded money from the sole staff member, who placed an amount of cash into his bag. The man then left the store heading in the direction of Thackery St,'' Detective Sergeant Craig Vining said.
The man was wearing dark-coloured clothing, gloves, one black sock and one white sock and no shoes and carrying a black Puma backpack.
Mr Vining said it was likely the offender lived close by or was picked up by a car given his lack of footwear.
"There were plenty of people in the area who may now recall seeing him and the fact he has come into money will be sign for his family and associates."
The victim did everything right and was not harmed during the robbery, he said.
Police would like to hear from anyone who recognises the man or was in the area at the time and has information that might help.
"We are very keen to speak to anyone who may be able to assist the investigation and get this guy off the street," Mr Vining said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Napier Central Police Station on (06) 831 0700 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 11.
